True and Tried Color Combinations for Dresses

During the summer months tried and true color combinations can be used to create light, breezy outfits that will show off your summer tan. These color combinations work well for both men and women. You can use these color combinations to put together outfits, or to update your spring and summer wardrobe.

Tan and White

Tan is a neutral color and so is white. Each of these colors can be paired with just about any other color, however, they also look great together. If you want to put together an outfit you will want to keep white on top and the tan on the bottom. For example you may want to pair a fitted white polo shirt with tan trousers that have a drawstring waist. This will create a very island vacation feel. To complete the outfit, select a cute pair of brown leather sandals or flip flops.

Blue and White

White and blue also make a crisp color combination that is appropriate for both casual summer events and dressier events. For casual event you can pair light blue with white, and for dressier events consider the nautical navy blue and white color combination. This color combination works well in strips, solid separates, or as accent colors. For example you can wear a white dress and accent it with a blue shrug. Or you can wear a blue dress and accent it with a white beaded necklace and bangles.

Pastels

If you want a goof proof way to pair colors together for summer then you may want to stay within a family of colors like pastels. You can pair just about any pastels together to create a soft looking outfit. The key for creating a pastel outfit is to keep things balanced. You will generally want to select one pastel for the majority of your outfit and then accent it with other pastels. If you don’t know if two pastels go together don’t try to mix solid pieces together. For example avoid a solid pastel pink top with a solid pastel blue bottom.

Black and White

Black and white are both colors that go with just about anything. However, when they are paired together they can create a very dramatic look. This color combination is perfect for formal events and dressier occasions. You will probably want to avoid this dramatic combination for casual events and day activities.

Primary Colors

Primary colors, red, blue and yellow, work well together. The color saturation of these colors will influence how bold, or how soft the look you create will be. Because these colors tend to be very bold you may want to pair them with white pieces, or break up their intensity with white blocks or stripes.
