How to Walk Comfortably in High Heels
High heels are a great fashion accessory that can make you look long
and lean. However, if you are not used to walking in high heels they
can also be a hazard to your health. To walk comfortably in high
heels you can follow these tips.
1 Buy a Quality Shoe
Well made high heels are comfortable and designed to last. Quality
high heel shoes are significantly more expensive then department
store high heels are, but they are well worth the investment. If
price is a concern then you can look for quality high heels at
outlet stores, clearance sales, and special sample sales.
2 Gel Inserts
One of the problems that wearing high heels creates is foot pain.
This pain is caused by applying pressure to areas of the foot that
dont have enough padding to cushion the bones in your foot. Gel
inserts are a great way to help reduce foot pain when wearing high
heel shoes. They are relatively inexpensive and they can make your
special event a lot more comfortable, especially if you will be on
your feet for several hours.
3 Practice Standing in High Heels
The best way to start training your feet and body to walk in high
heels is to simply stand in your heels. This will help you to learn
how to balance in heels, and it will also help to break in your new
shoes. As you stand in your shoes shift your weight from leg to leg,
and then try sitting and standing with them on.
4 Practice Walking on a Flat Surface
The next step is to practice walking back and forth over a flat
surface. Start by walking on a hard floor and then graduate to
carpet. This will help you to establish the heel toe cadence needed
to walk properly in heels.
5 Practice on Stairs and Uneven Surfaces
After you have mastered flat surfaces and carpets, your next
challenge will be to learn how to walk on stairs and uneven
surfaces. This is going to take some practice. You may want someone
to walk next to you in regular shoes to help you balance at first.
As you get used to the new ways that you have to balance in heels on
uneven surfaces try negotiating your obstacles on your own. The only
way to improve your ability to walk in heels is to practice.
