Lingerie Care
Lingerie is designed for three purposes. The first purpose is to
protect your clothes from body oil, sweat, and odors. The second
purpose is to provide your body with coverage. And the final purpose
is to look and feel sexy. To keep your lingerie looking its best you
need to take care of it.
Lingerie Care Step #1 – Don’t Machine Wash Your Lingerie
While some pieces of lingerie can handle a tumble in the washer and
dryer, you should generally avoid laundering your lingerie this way.
Lingerie is delicate and needs to be hand washed in a mild detergent
and luke warm water. After hand washing your lingerie hang it to dry
or dry it flat, depending on the item.
Lingerie Care Step #2 – Mend Damage Immediately
Because lingerie is so delicate you need to mend frays and damage as
soon as you spot that they have developed. This will help to prevent
the small problems from becoming big problems. You can generally
repair broken threads, frays, and other small damage problems with a
needle and thread. It is a good idea to keep a spare set of bra
hooks on hand for repairs.
Lingerie Care Step #3 – Know Your Size
One way to ruin your lingerie is to try and squeeze into pieces that
no longer fit you. This will stretch out the lace, bust seams, and
deform your lingerie. When you first notice that your bra or other
piece of lingerie is getting too tight move up to the next size.
This will help to preserve the lingerie that you already have, and
it will help your body to look its best.
Lingerie Care Step #4 – Selecting a Detergent
General laundry detergent is too harsh for delicate lingerie. To get
your delicate items clean you need a delicate detergent. Woolite is
a great option. It is designed for hand washing, and it even comes
in a special formula for dark colored items. If you have a black
slip or black underwear that you want to keep looking dark and sexy,
then you will want to use a cleaner that is designed for preventing
fading.
Lingerie Care Step #5 – Store it Properly
To keep your lingerie looking new and sexy, you need to store it
properly. You want to avoid keeping it in wooden drawers that aren’t
lines. This is because the unfinished wood can snag your delicate
pieces, especially the lingerie that you have that has lace. You
also don’t want to use wire hangers for your lingerie. These hangers
can misshape your lingerie and lingerie has a tendency to slip off
these hangers. For the best results fold and store your lingerie in
a lined drawer, or use special satin upholstered hangers.
