Healthy Habits for Great Looking Hair
Healthy habits for great looking hair are simple and logical. To
create healthy hair you need to provide it with the right nutrition,
hydrate it, and groom it properly. Most people have a hair care
routine that addresses most of these requirements, however, if you
are not providing your hair with all three of these things then it
will not look as beautiful as it could.
Nutrition for Your Hair
The first step for creating healthy hair is to provide it with the
proper nutrition. Luckily good nutrition for your body is good
nutrition for your hair. This means that changes that you make to
create a healthy diet for your body, will also benefit your hair’s
health. Some of the items that you will want to add to your diet
include fresh berries, dark green vegetables, orange vegetables, and
lean protein. You will also want to limit items that can create
impurities in your system that will dull your hair or cause your
scalp to produce too much oil. These foods include processed sugars,
processed starches, and high fat foods. Chocolate has also listed as
a food to avoid, but if you moderate your chocolate intake you can
still enjoy it occasionally.
Hydration for Your Hair
Providing your hair with the proper hydration is critical to its
health. There are several ways that you can get moisture into your
hair. The first way is to hydrate your body properly for your
activity level. Most people need about 8 glasses of water a day.
Another way that you can hydrate your hair is to use moisturizing
hair care products. There are shampoos and conditioners that have
added moisturizers, and there are also styling and finishing
products that also contain moisturizers. If your hair is in
desperate need for moisture then you can also use mayonnaise, or an
oil and egg wash to moisturize your hair.
Grooming Your Hair Properly
Grooming your hair properly requires four steps. The first step is
to wash your hair properly. To wash your hair properly use warm
water instead of hot, and use a shampoo that is designed for your
hair type. Next you will want to condition your hair. While you can
limit the number of times per week that you wash your hair to 3 or
4, you really should condition your hair everyday and use one that
has an SPF added to it. On the days that you don’t wash your hair
you can use a spray on conditioner. The third step is to brush your
hair properly. To brush your hair properly you will want to use a
brush that is right for your hair type and hair condition. If your
hair is wet use a wide tooth comb instead of a brush. If your hair
is dry use a paddle brush for general brushing and a round brush for
styling. Finally keep your ends trimmed. This will help you manage
split ends and reduce damage caused by styling.
