Reviving Damaged Hair
There are many different types of damaged hair. If you want to
revive damaged hair you first need to identify what caused the
damage and then you need to select a treatment that will work to
correct the problem. Finally you need to take steps to maintain the
health of your hair so that it won’t be susceptible to damage caused
by something else.
Heat Damage
One of the most common sources of damage is heat. Heat damage can be
caused by curling irons, straightening irons, hair driers, and the
sun. Heat damage causes brittle hair, spit ends, frizz, and
straw-head. To correct this problem you will need to take several
steps. First of all you will want to get a good hair cut that
removes the damaged ends and the damaged hair that can’t be helped.
Next you will need a deep conditioning treatment. This will help to
revitalize the borderline hair strands and strengthen the rest of
your hair. These two steps will help to stabilize your hair and
create a healthy base to work with.
To protect your hair from further damage you will want to first
condition your hair every day. Use a conditioner that is designed to
protect your hair from heat damage. Next you will want to use a
leave in heat barrier product that will protect your hair from heat
damage caused by your heat based styling tools. Finally you will
want to reduce how often you use heated styling tools, especially
during the summer months.
Perm Damage
Perms can cause a lot of damage. The chemicals used to curl your
hair can “fry” your hair. If you have recently had a perm and your
hair makes you look like a poodle, or if the perm didn’t take, then
you need to go to a salon to get a reverse perm. This treatment will
neutralize the perming solution and it will return your hair to its
pre-perm condition. Next you will want to use a deep conditioning
hair treatment to counteract the drying effects of the original
perm.
To protect your hair from further damage you will want to avoid
using chemical hair treatments for a couple of weeks. This will
prevent further damage to your hair from chemical compounds. Finally
continue to use a deep conditioning hair treatment one a week until
your hair’s health has been restored.
Styling Product Build-Up
If you use a lot of styling products every day then your hair may
become weighed down by residue. Residue build up will make your hair
look greasy, dirty, limp, and unhealthy. To revive damaged hair
caused by residue build up all you need to do is to use a clarifying
shampoo. This will help you to strip all of the residues from your
hair. To protect your hair from further residue build up you should
use a clarifying shampoo once a month, or as you need it.
