Choosing Foundation
Choosing foundation takes research and experimentation. This is
because every woman has a unique skin tone and unique foundation
needs. When you are ready to shop for a new foundation then you
should follow these steps.
Choosing Foundation Step #1 – Evaluate Your Skin
The finished look of your foundation is going to depend a lot on
what type of skin you have. Therefore, before you go shopping for
foundation you need to evaluate your skin and determine what skin
type you have. An easy way to do this is to simply run your fingers
over your bare skin and see how it feels. Does your skin feel oily
or dry? Do you have blemishes or acne? Do you have rough spots? The
answers to these questions will help guide you to the right
foundations.
Choosing Foundation Step #2 – Sample Different Foundations
The next step in choosing a foundation is to sample a variety of
different types of foundations. Try different brands as well as
different formulas. For example you may want to try powder
foundations, tinted moisturizers, liquid foundations, and spray on
foundations. This part of your shopping should focus on the feel and
function of the foundation instead of the color. During your
experimentation with different foundations look for one that will
address your skin issues, that will provide you with even coverage,
and that also feels good.
Choosing Foundation Step #3 – Picking a Color
After you have found a product that you like your next step is to
find the shade that is right for you. To do this you will need to
try several different shades. To find the right shade all you need
to do is place a small smear of foundation on your jaw line. The
color that seems to disappear against your skin is the perfect match
for your skin tone.
Choosing Foundation Step #4 – Mixing a Custom Color
If you have a skin color that doesn’t seem to have a perfect match
then you will most likely need to mix your own foundation color. To
do this you need to find two or more shades that have elements
similar to your natural shade. For example you may need to mix
together an ivory and a cream to get the yellow tones needed to
match your skin’s tone. If your skin tone is between foundation
shades then you will want to mix the closest light shade with the
closest dark shade to your actual skin tone to create the right
color balance.
Choosing Foundation Step #5 – Selecting a Powder
Having a powder to set your makeup with is always a good idea. A
good powder will either match your base foundation, or it will be
sheer. If you want to add sparkle to your completed look then you
can also select a powder that is infused with sparkle crystals. If
you found a foundation that you love then you should try to find a
powder offered by the same manufacturer. This will help to minimize
color matching problems and possible interactions between the two
products.
