Concealer Tips and Tricks

While many people use the terms concealer and foundation to describe the same thing, they are actually two very different products. Foundations are thinner liquids that are used to even out your skin tone. Concealers, on the other hand, are usually thicker, oil-based products that are designed to neutralize specific colors and to cover skin imperfections.

Concealer Tips and Tricks #1 – Solving the Problem of Dark Circles

One problem that haunts a lot of women is the problem of dark under eye circles. These discolorations are caused by a build up of toxins in the thin skin under your eyes, dehydrated tissues, genetics, and a lack of sleep. Concealers are one of the only ways that you can quickly hide dark circles. To camouflage dark circles you will need a yellow-based concealer. Then simply paint over the circles.

Concealer Tips and Tricks #2 – Solve the Problem of Crusty Concealer Spots

If you use concealer on a fairly regular basis then you are probably familiar with the cakey and crusty appearance that some concealers can develop as the day wears on the concealer dries out. If your concealer dries out during the day you can moisten it by rubbing a small dab of moisturizer or face cream on to the concealer and then gently rubbing it in a small circle. This will work the moisture back into the product and smooth out crack lines.

Concealer Tips and Tricks #3 – Covering Red Splotches

If you have red splotches on your skin from sun damage or from a skin disorder then using a concealer that is designed for neutralizing red is your best option. If you can’t find a red neutralizer then you can use a light shade of concealer and mix in some green eye shadow. The green color is the opposing color for red on the color wheel. It will neutralize the red and make your skin look balanced.

Concealer Tips and Tricks #4 – Covering Birthmarks

If you were born with a birthmark on your face or neck then you can use a yellow base concealer to cover it. If you need to cover a large area then you may want to thin out the concealer by mixing it with a little bit of your foundation or with face cream.

Concealer Tips and Tricks #5 – What to Do When Your Run Out of Concealer

If you run out of concealer and you need some you should turn to the lid of your foundation. Inside of the lid look for foundation residue. The foundation that is left in your lid is thicker because some of its water has evaporated away. You can use this as a concealer substitute in a pinch.

Concealer Tips and Tricks #6 – What Type of Concealer to Use

No matter what type of skin you have you should use a concealer that has a cream formula base. This is because it applies smoother, it doesn’t crack or dry out as easy, and it will blend better with you foundation.
