The Right Way to Use Blush
Applying blush is something that most women don’t think a lot about.
However, using the wrong type of blush or applying it improperly to
your face can make you look heavier or older then you actually are.
If you want to look your best then you need to learn the right way
to use blush.
Select the Right Blush Product to Use
When you are shopping for blush you need to make sure that you buy a
product that will be compatible with the rest of your makeup. You
will especially want to make sure that the blush that you select
will be compatible with the type of foundation that you use. For
example if you buy a crème blush then you will want to make sure
that you use a creamy soft finish foundation. Otherwise the crème
blush will not look right when it is applied.
Select the Right Color for Your Skin Tone
The color of blush that you select needs to compliment your skin
tone. If you have a warm skin tone then you will want to select warm
shades, and if you have a cool skin tone then you will want to
select cool blush shades. Most makeup counters and displays today
separate their colors according to where they lie on the warm to
cool scale.
Select the Right Application Tool
In addition to selecting the right blush to use and the right color,
you also need to select the right application tools. If you are
using a powder blush then you will want to use a large makeup brush
to apply it to your cheeks. If you are using a crème based blush
then you will want to use a makeup sponge. If you are using a cheek
tint then you will want to use your fingers to apply it to your
cheeks.
How to Apply Blush Properly
Your first step for applying blush is to fill the applicator with
the blush. If you are using a powder blush then you will want to
gently swipe your makeup brush across the color and tap off the
extra. Then you will want to look into a mirror and smile. The area
on your cheeks that plumps up when you smile is called the apples of
your cheeks. This is where you want to start the color application.
Gently sweep the color from the apples of your cheeks to your
hairline. Sweep several times to create the color intensity that you
are comfortable with.
If you are using a crème based blush then you will want to apply the
blush to a sponge or to your fingers and then pat the color on to
the apples of your cheeks. Then gently blend the color between your
apples and your hair line. Try to make the color fade as the color
travels closer to your hair line.
